Becoming a Podcast Subscriber

Connecting the Dots with The Renaissance People logo with brain lit up on both sides and dots in the words connecting to it.

As a podcast host (check out Connecting the Dots with The Renaissance People), I’m now joining the chorus of people with microphones chanting the same mantra.

If you like this podcast, support it by following, rating and reviewing it on your favorite podcast streaming platform!

That’s all fine and dandy if you’ve already got a favorite streaming platform. But I know that’s not everyone. So I wanted to share a quick and easy way to get yourself set up.

I’ll start with what I use.

***WARNING, I’m a loud and proud Android user so if you’re an Apple aficionado, you may want to jump down***

I originally had Google Podcast. But when that went away in 2024, I did quite a bit of research to find the next best option for me. I ended up choosing Pocketcast at the suggestion of my friend, K.O. Myers of Particulate Media who is helping host my podcast. Also, I am NOT receiving any credit or payment for making this recommendation sadly. Just me trying to hep people.

The reasons I chose Pocketcast are:

  • It’s free!
  • You can share links to your favorite podcast or podcast episodes (perfect for a Renaissance Woman who is constantly sharing resources with others)
  • It allows you to download multiple episodes (nice when you’re somewhere free/reliable internet is not available, such as my upcoming cross-country flight)
  • It’s easy to rearrange your queue (I follow my rule of almost never listening to two episodes of the same podcast back to back to cultivate serendipitous “connecting the dots” moments as I discuss in the first episode of Queued for Thought, my curated podcast list).
  • You can change the playback speed (I regularly listen at 1.4 speed)
  • You can use it in a browser window (though I almost always listen through the app on my phone)
  • It is available for Androids and iPhones

Negatives include:

  • You can only rate, not review a podcast (mainly a negative as a host since reviews play a critical role in getting your podcast in front of more people in the platform)
  • Sometimes it randomly won’t play an episode (not sure if that’s an issue with my phone, the episode or something else)

When I look at my listening history on the app, I’ve been using it successfully since February 2024 so it must be working!

However, I know three things.

  1. People are most likely to listen to a podcast when it is as easy as possible to access.
  2. More people have iPhones than Androids (and 40% of listeners for my podcast Connecting the Dots with The Renaissance People, listen with Apple Podcasts).
  3. Apple Podcasts easily lets you follow, rate AND review podcasts.

And so, I present another podcast listening option.

Apple Option

If you’ve already got an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch, Apple Podcasts comes automatically installed on your device. Search in your apps for “Podcasts” and it should show up.

Finding where to go to rate and review a show can be a little challenging at first. Now I COULD share a link to an Apple resource on this topic. But instead, I’m going to share a video created by a fellow podcast host (who I don’t know and whose podcast I have never listened to, but oh well). She shows exactly where to go to rate and review a show, something that THIS Renaissance Woman would LOVE to have you do.

Bonus: If you have an Android, this video shows you how to download Apple Podcasts for your device. Note, it is NOT through the Google Play Store. Instead, you use a browser window. You can sync, follow, and listen there, but you cannot download podcast episodes to listen to offline. (boo!!)

And Even More Options!

If you’re wondering what other podcast streaming platforms you can listen to Connecting the Dots with The Renaissance People on, here’s a list of all of them!

Happy listening!

And following…

And rating…

And reviewing…
