Time for spring cleaning/organization, Renaissance person-style

The warmer weather has ignited a burning desire in me to do three things: exercise outside, get started planting seeds for my garden/supplementing the soil, and spring cleaning/getting organized.

So I invite you to join me for a free Spring Cleaning event on Friday. But this is Spring Cleaning, Renaissance Person-Style.

Brain Dump

It’s called Brain Dump and I did a test run of this back in January. What a relief from a short period of work!

Raise your virtual hand if this is you…

Inspiration strikes you at any moment. Because of that, you have:

  • Email drafts galore filled with phrases, hyperlinks to resources, titles of podcast episodes and time stamps for when something interesting was said (yeah, that’s me as you can tell from the above image)
  • Post-it notes all over the place with ideas
  • Numerous notes or voice memos saved on your phone
  • Thoughts scribbled in various notebooks
  • Asana/Notions/Trellis/etc. accounts filled with resources you might use someday

Inspired by the conversation Marika Luneau and I had in the 6th episode of Connecting the Dots with The Renaissance People, I decided to actually organize and act on my ideas BEFORE I lost my excitement for them.

I create a Google Sheet entitled “Brain Dump 2026” with 4 columns.

  1. Date (if I had it) when I was inspired
  2. Content of the email draft where my idea currently lived
  3. What I wanted to do with the idea
  4. A “Completed” column to add check marks (aka a dopamine hit) in later

I gave myself one rule and two exceptions.

RULE – I could ONLY copy and paste things into the sheet and note what I wanted to do with them, nothing more.

EXCEPTION #1 – If I couldn’t understand what I had written (I know this will ring true for many of you who had found old notes), I simply deleted them.

EXCEPTION #2 – If I could accomplish the “to do” list item in less than a minute, I did it and did not add it to the sheet.

I was able to remove more than 60 items from my drafts folder and a metaphorical weight from my shoulders.

Want to experience the same
