Can this just stop already?!? Moms (and caregivers in general) deserve a break!
Three days ago I celebrate the 8th anniversary of birthing day (my name for my children’s birthdays). After almost 40 hours of labor, my husband and I welcomed our first child into the world 8 years ago. And suffice it to say, I was exhausted.
Every time I see this image on the wall at the gym, my blood boils. This is a problem for multiple reasons.
1). This implication that mothers don’t get any days off. BULL!
Mothers need and deserve to get a break, just like all caregivers. If they can’t take time to fill their own proverbial cup, how are they supposed to support those around them?
2). When you workout, you shouldn’t take any days off. BS!!
When you workout, your body needs time to recover. You can lift heavier weights and see more progress if you take a rest between reps. You need to alternate the type of workout you do in order to continue challenging your body and to reduce the chance of injury.
Furthermore, if you are injured or sick, you need time to heal. And if you’re sick, you should NOT be going to the gym (or other places for that matter) and potentially spreading your germs. Stay home, hydrate and rest.
So happy delayed 8th birthday to my smart, intense, caring, complex daughter. It is your special day and I’ll do my best to make you feel that way. But mom is also going to take some time to treat herself in the near future because she deserves a special day too.
