Collaboration Across Scientific Disciplines

Hey scientists, I know we love to TALK about cross-disciplinary research (and funders love to promote that…well, at least they have in the past…that’s another blog post).

But have you had a chance to step back and think about the term? What about the difference between cross-disciplinary, multi-disciplinary, transdisciplinary or any other buzz word floating around?

One year ago, I began my deep dive into all things cross-disciplinary when I was chosen by AAAS to help them look at three things:

1) The current state of collaboration across scientific disciplines
2) The value of such collaborations on scientists’ careers and the broader scientific enterprise
3) Practical steps for successful collaborations and means of evaluating such projects

This was a Renaissance Woman’s DREAM rabbit hole!!

The first product from my work, a lengthy commissioned literature review, is now available on the AAAS Learning Hub.
