It’s the day after #InternationalWomensDay, and on LinkedIn I read and shared a significant amount of valid push back against it early in the day. But as I mulled it over, I came to a realization that I needed a more expansive response.
I’m drawing from an improv technique where you take what your fellow improvisers are suggesting and build on it. For example, they say:
🗣 We should fight this goblin!
You think to yourself, that’s not the direction I wanted this scene to go in, I already gave plenty of hints that the thing in front of us is a fire breathing dragon! But to be successful in improv, you need to live in the moment so you have two choices:
❌️ That isn’t a goblin, it’s a dragon!
✅️ Yes, and I think the magic umbrella I borrowed from Hagrid is somewhere in my backpack. Let me grab it. 🌂
Yes, we can be inspired by the women in our lives AND we can simultaneously challenging gender pay imbalance, the lack of women in leadership rolls and the use of rape as a weapon of warfare, among the many issues impacting women.
