One of my favorite tasks is leading interactive trainings that provide tools attendees can immediately implement in their lives and in their work. One recent training I designed and led was for the Science Communication Trainers Network (SCTN) entitled “Using LinkedIn to be a Powerhouse Networker.” The description was, “In this session, participants will learn about and practice skills for successfully using LinkedIn to build and maintain a thriving network of contacts and potential collaborators. Topics that will be covered include how to meaningfully make connections, how to get followers, ways to design your profile so you stand out, and how/why it is worth utilizing free trials of LinkedIn Premium and LinkedIn Learning.”
The session was a great success and in the month since I led it, it has been exciting to see how participants have been able to use the strategies I provided in their LinkedIn networking. However, I have to admit that whenever I design these types of trainings, the research I do into making them ALSO helps me get better at whatever topic I’m covering (double bonus of this work!)
And like everyone, the positive feedback is so rewarding for me to receive.
Thanks for the great Trainer’s Network workshop on LinkedIn. I really enjoyed it and now know how to make better use of LinkedIn. – SCTN attendee
Thank you for a great session… I am always looking for new ways to connect with people, given that the majority of my job has been done in the pandemic, and your advice was wonderful. – SCTN attendee
Hi Sara, thanks for the great LinkedIn session during today’s SCTN mini-convening! I’ve seen quite a few LinkedIn sessions before but very few that go beyond “101,” so I really appreciated the deep-dive! -SCTN attendee
If you are part of a group or organization that might benefit from this training, please reach out to me to see if I can create something for you. This it the type of training where specificity is key, so being able to focus on the needs of a particular group of people to customize it is critical.
